Motorsport to help veterans

The University of Northampton’s occupational therapy team are helping wounded service personnel get back into work by partnering with Mission Motorsport.

This is a charity that uses motorsport to help military personnel, or ‘beneficiaries’, get back into the workplace. Lecturers and students from the university have been working with the charity since 2015, offering sensory rehabilitation to help veterans cope with the motorsport activities.

This “racing rehab” includes a sensory room and refuge for veterans to enable them to explore their emotional responses to being in the adrenaline-fuelled racing car environment. Ensuring beneficiaries are able to enjoy engaging with the activities builds their confidence and allows them to reengage with the workforce.
