3-D printed synthetic organs to train surgeons

From clothes that can ease the crippling symptoms of Raynaud’s disease to synthetic tissue that mimics living organs, researchers at Nottingham Trent University are harnessing the potential for materials to transform healthcare.

Led by Professor Tilak Dias, the team are exploring the use of new materials and technologies to create synthetic soft tissues which will revolutionise the way surgeons and other health professionals are trained. Professor Dias’s creations are so lifelike that his laboratory door carries a warning sign so as not to cause alarm to visitors.
