In a ground-breaking university collaboration between local authorities and businesses London South Bank University (LSBU), one the UK’s leading university providers of higher and degree apprenticeships, is addressing the skills needs of businesses and employers in South London.
Through a dynamic partnership with Southwark Council the University has been mapping the skills shortages and future requirements of businesses and employers, and the technical training needs of local learners.
With generous support from Southwark Council, London South Bank University has created a dedicated hub for the delivery of apprenticeships; a focal point for learners and businesses: the Passmore Centre for Professional and Technical Education.
The centre provides facilities for employer meetings, community engagement and teaching, while serving as a ‘one stop shop’ connecting businesses with potential apprentices from the local area.
As a result of this partnership, the aim is for 1,000 Southwark residents to graduate from a high quality apprenticeship programme that will give them the skills demanded to tackle the jobs of the future.
This is part of LSBU’s commitment to provide high quality professional and technical education that meets the personal and career aspirations of a socially an ethnically diverse student body – reflecting its local London population.
