The first degree in video gaming

Abertay University was the first university in the world to introduce degree programmes in video games.

It did this in 1997 following discussions with the nascent games industry, and has gone on to produce thousands of games graduates who now work for, and even own, video games companies internationally.

One of its first games alumni was Dave Jones, founder of DMA Design, who went on to create Lemmings and the very first version of Grand Theft Auto.

The games industry is worth more than the music and film industries combined, so the economic and cultural worth of this sector is not to be dismissed.
